Welcome to Borderlands Photography Workshops. Led by Joey Siemens and Steve Hiebert, these workshops grew from a shared passion for photography and the landscapes that inspire it. Joey and Steve bring years of experience behind the lens and a commitment to teaching in a clear, hands-on way. Whether you’re drawn to landscapes, macro details, drone work, or the night sky, they can help you develop your skills. Their goal is simple: to share the craft they love and help others see and capture the world with new eyes.
Joey SiemensFor Joey Siemens, photography is more than images—it’s about chasing wild beauty and holding on to moments that move the soul. From lightning storms over the prairie to the quiet shimmer of the Northern Lights, his work captures both the power and stillness of nature. He’s equally drawn to the haunting presence of abandoned buildings, where every wall tells a story of time gone by.
Named runner-up in the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s 2024 Reflections of Nature contest for his image Power & Glory, Joey’s eye for light and drama has earned recognition across Canada. But for him, photography is just as much about sharing the journey—the laughter, the awe, and the chance to see the world with new eyes. |
Steve HiebertOne of Steve Hiebert’s earliest memories with a camera was during an ice storm in the early 80s. With no power and nothing to do, he picked up his father’s old Pentax and took his first photograph. From that moment, he was hooked.
More than 40 years later, that same wonder is still with him—whether walking through quiet landscapes, driving back roads, or standing beneath a sky full of stars. Photography allows him to hold on to those fleeting moments of beauty, a way of seeing and sharing the world as a gift. Now, what excites Steve most is passing that gift along—helping others discover the same joy in capturing a moment, whether it’s the vastness of the night sky or the smallest details of the world around us. |
